Equilibrium

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits. The rebels. The trouble makers. The round heads in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules and the have no respect for the status quo.You can quote them, disagree with, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things, they push the human race forward and while some may see them as the crazy ones. We see Genius because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who actually do” – Jack Kerouac.

This has been on my mind this past week. What a depressing week. I needed my anger and sadness to sink in. #Blacklivesmatter. How does one even make sense of this?? besides writing how we feel about this on social media and having hashtags for the victims, what can we possibly do to stop this? The truth of the matter is, this is not new. The cameras are new. Even with that said, the perpetrators are still walking scout free. What infuriates me is how silenced we are by some white people. So for every protest you make, (eg. like now) you take the risk to be branded anti-white, when you are not even  behind the offense that lead you to protest in the first place,  but are a victim. So you decide to keep quiet and it just chows you up inside. As far as I understand it, this movement is not a divisive movement. We established that we as a human race are equal yet some people, some political, some judicial, cultural and social systems still don’t comprehend that. Lets all just check our privileges and work towards obtaining this equality.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” ………………” Racism is no mere American phenomenon, Its vicious grasp knows no geographical boundaries. In fact, racism and its perennially economic exploitation, provide the key to understanding most of the international complications of this generation. ” – Dr. Martin Luther King

Anyhow  ……… I got these really cool pants and shoes from 32 Clothing at a bargain. You know I am all about that bargain life. My friend and I had been looking for the nearest 32 clothing store until we finally found one at Southgate Mall. 32 Clothing has all your favourite brands all under one roof. These pants are H&M and the shoes Asos.

Denim

I bit off a friends head off the other day when she said to me I take long gaps in between blog posts, She was right. However in my defence I have been really busy working on another project which required me to give it my 150% attention, I know its not a good enough excuse. However a girl is trying ok. Major changes have happened recently and you will soon find out, so there will be no more longs gaps in between posts.Promise…… So I copped this cute denim dress from Cotton On the other day, I absolutely LOVE denim. This dress is still in stores I think. I have been living in this parker jacket this winter, no lies. Its the easiest thing for me to wear. I got it from Foschini last year. I reckon it should also still be in stores in the colours black and blue. Till next time! Hopefully not long from now.

Quarter to Success

I cant believe it’s been three months since we launched TLIW. Yay!!!! Juggling my 9 to 5 and striving to give you guys good content on the blog hasn’t been easy, however it has been an amazing three months. The response and feedback has been amazing. A ginormous thank you to you all. I am super excited for the next upcoming projects that I have been working on, so please stay tuned for updates on our social media pages.

Now for this look. I will say, I’m not one to wear sandals or any kind of open shoes in winter. My feet are somehow always frozen, even in summer. So when I’m lounging around at home, I literally live in my socks. I pulled these Boity x Legit sandals to pair them up with this beautifully knitted poncho. So In the spirit of splashing some colour in my winter closet, this knit is perfect. love it.

Military Base

A quick look of what I had the other day. I was feeling 100 when these pictures were taken. The MAC “Runway hit” matte lippie seemed to be a great idea at the time, until I saw these pictures. So I quickly dashed to the car to go change to one of my favourites “heroine” ,  only to get our car keys locked inside the car. Disaster……Anyhow check out these winter favs. Military and olive green. A beautiful love affair.

Back to Black

My favourite colour!!!Okay lemme tell you something. I can wear this colour everyday if I could. I had made a promise to my closet that I would give it some colour this winter, just to get out of the usual Blacks and greys it has every winter. I will keep you guys updated as I hunt for some colourful winter items. In this post, I took it back to basics, back to black. I had been looking everywhere even online for a great looking black duster coat. The one that everyone has been spotting (the waterfall coat) is a tad bit light for my liking, so I was searching for something that had a bit more structure and weight. I came across this beauty on one of my visits to China market. I know what you’re thinking, but look I’m a big bargain shopper. If I can find a great statement piece at an amazing price, I’m on it! After all, style can never be bought.

Classic Trench

I am so excited about this season,  mainly because I love winter fashion! One item you should include in your winter closet is of course a classic trench coat. Whether it be  black, navy, tan or beige, when you see one, don’t think twice. Just grab it. The Invention of the trench coat is claimed by both Burberry and Aquascutum and  I must say, you gotta love the fact that some fashion items  make a come back once in a while , but this one has been around since the 1800’s. The trench coat is a definite must have. Its not going anywhere anytime soon. The one I’m wearing here is a thrift find. I got this a couple years back. I’ve had it for quite some  time and its still in great shape.

Speaking of must haves this fall season;  a faux fur wrap! You can pair this with absolutely anything. This wrap makes me feel uber luxurious. So I would suggest you add it to your winter wish list.  Paired with these DIY Faux fur strappy sandals, kinda overdosed on the fur but I love it!

Focus

In my very first post I quoted Zethu saying, “if you point the gun you must have an intention to shoot” and I’ve been reminding myself of this constantly, not only to shoot but to aim and hit the target. I will most likely miss a couple of times,  it will take time. However I believe I will hit the bulls- eye.  People will always want to tell YOU, about YOU. It makes them more comfortable to box you in a some kind of category because then they think they know what to expect from you. The minute you exceed those expectations, you find them low-key getting mad at you for no good reason and looking at you like you changed, when in fact this whole time they were not listening or taking you seriously when you were sharing your dreams, thinking that you had your head in the clouds. So now when you finally growing into that person you had dreamt of being, it’s shocking to them.  Don’t let that deter you, go on and dream BIG… so big that you have to become the person that can attain those dreams. Running track in primary school, I remember my coach always saying that your main focus is getting to the finish line, as fast as you can. Do not look sideways and do not look behind you. Keep your FOCUS straight ahead.
With that said, working on this blog is really fun but it requires a lot of work. Looking from the outside, and looking at all these glamorous bloggers, one would think its easy until you take a shot at it. However I absolutely love doing this, a grown up girl playing dress-up! Documenting this time of my life is the icing on the cake 🙂

So like I’m so obsessed with burgundy (amongst other colours ) that I have two looks for this post 🙂

Imperfection

“You need to try not to vocalise the things that bother you because then you perpetuate them even further. Focus on the good, focus on what feels good. Concentrate on what is good to you, concentrate on what nourishes your soul” – Said a very good friend of mine. I have been told all I do lately is complain, “I’m tired…” “I’m fat…” “work this, work that”. Which is completely true!!!??   It has been a very busy couple of months and most days I don’t know if I’m coming or going. A lot of changes have left me unsettled. Hopefully with a changed mind-set, things are going to go back to what I will call a “new normal”.

Amongst other things, this blog is my primary motivation to wake up every day. It’s my sacred space.  I’ve always had a solution based mind-set, If I don’t like something in my life, I tackle it head on and fix it. I am constantly trying to improve myself, however I would be the first to admit that I haven’t been so great at that lately. For example the day we took these snaps, I realised my bra strap was showing in almost all the pictures, the HORROR!!!!!!  I thought to myself… “babe, why didn’t you tell me? why didn’t this bra strap allow me to be great?” But then I realised, Nothing in this life of sin is perfect. I sure am not and never will be, and that’s okay.  Everything I am not, makes me who I am.  I will focus my energies on being good to the people around me, but most importantly being good and kinder to myself. One gets so caught up being self-involved and forgets to see just how blessed they are. So in this second quarter of the year, Goodness will be trending in my life.

A casual but not basic look for this post. It was an easy Saturday, so I went with a white long shirt from Cotton On and black ripped jeans from Mr Price. Heels are from Fashion express (now called the Fix) . I got this bag from one of my best friends. Shades are from Jays Jays and my accessories (incl. Earrings) are all from ALDO shoes.
